This blog hop was the idea of Lexa Cain, who needs cheering up after a laptop crash. Truly a bummer, but the worse part is not remembering all of her passwords! Here's to you, Lexa!
My first memories of vacation were the family trips to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It's wasn't that far from home, but when you're a kid, it seems days away. "Are we there yet?" My parents insisted on seeing the ocean before doing anything else. They'd park the car at the boardwalk, and we'd walk onto the beach.
Today I still do the same... park at the boardwalk and walk down to the beach. I could stand there forever, breathing in that wonderful salty air.
It's a popular spot for families, and they still use blue umbrellas!
We played lots of mini golf... but they have changed over the years. They are no longer ground level only.
We love playing in the foam at the water's edge. We love the sand castles that are here today - gone tomorrow. I agree, it's time to go and stake out a spot on the shore. Of course we love the late afternoon, watching the ships, and small boats come in to shore. Can you hear the roar of the ocean as you drift off to sleep?

Not to worry, Teddy. we'll go again soon. Until then, we'll travel in our hearts.
When I see these photos all I can think of are movies where I've seen these locations. Very cool that you've been there:)
ReplyDeleteWith any luck, I'd like to be there this summer too, (smile).
DeleteI've been there! So much to do. And the Sky Wheel is really cool.
ReplyDeleteI know, Alex. I have blast. that Sky Wheel is something else - you can see everything!!
DeleteSure sounds like a great spot. Are we there yet was said a time or ten at my den lol
ReplyDeletePat, you know it!!!
DeleteDixie, I have similar memories of the Lake of the Ozarks. It was the only time I saw my farmer dad relax, the first week of August.
ReplyDeleteHaven't been to the Ozarks.
DeleteWe drove through there once, looked way to touristy for me. We love the beaches in North Carolina which are not nearly so crowded.
ReplyDeleteTouristy - good word. It is that!
DeleteI also love, Wilmington, Carolina and Kure area. I've been to the Outer Banks about six times. Both are much quieter than Myrtle...
Dixie, we have been to Myrtle Beach three times over the years It's a good spot to go for a long weekend. One of my best childhood friends has a summer home there. I remember author, Homer Hickam (from my home state & county in WV) wrote that Myrtle Beach was a place that his folks wanted to retire to. A lot of West Virginians vacation there. The last time we were there was in 1997. It would be fun to go back maybe in the off-season sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite vacation spot - the Pine Tree State #bloghop
I hear you, Cathy! I love deep sea fishing in October in Wilmington.
DeleteI enjoyed your memories of vacationing. I've never been to Myrtle Beach. By August, I will wish I could go someplace chilly. One year I went to San Francisco during August. It felt so good. I had to wear a heavy sweater.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Janie, i too love chilly weather. Many times I go to another beach in October. It's a great time to pier fish or go deep sea fishing.
DeleteLooks like a beautiful place to vacation! Enjoyed reading your memories of it from your childhood. There's always something magical about being around water.
ReplyDeletebetty
Betty, you got it! Something magical about being around water. I'm glad you enjoyed reading my simple memories.
DeleteAh! "Are we there yet?" I remember giving and receiving that wonderfully annoying question. (Another good one: "Can't we just be there?") Myrtle Beach looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteHi Stuart. Thanks for co-hosting. Myrtle is great if you have a hankering for fun. Especially if you love mini golf. There must over a 100 courses.
DeleteThat boardwalk is a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteOh Sherry - I spent lots of time there too.
DeleteLooks like a lot of fun. I haven't been to the beach in years. I miss it.
ReplyDeleteTeddy and I are trying to get there this summer - if only for a long weekend.
DeleteNever been to Myrtle Beach. Your memories and pics, however, made me feel as if I would love the place.
ReplyDeleteMarilyn, it brings out the kid in me.
DeleteIt looks like a great vacation get away! Have never been there.
ReplyDeleteLee, it is so much fun.
DeleteWonderful photos. Looks like a great place to vacation.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Beverly. It was s little scary taking that second roller coaster photo - no net in front of me!
DeleteBoyfriend and I took our 3 kids to Myrtle Beach about 30 years ago...
ReplyDeleteWe drove....
When we stayed at a hotel on the drive down, the lights dimmed, as they were executing a prisoner!
We also drove them to Atlantic City and Wildwood New Jersey...on other trips!
Fun times....
Thanks for reminding me!
Have a great weekend!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Oh Linda, that sounds awful with the power drain! I hope that doesn't go on down there anymore.
DeleteThat's the first time I've ever seen a roller coaster at the beach! That whole place is so beautiful it looks like fantasy land! I think you're the 3rd person whose favorite spot was in SC. There must be something wonderful in the air down there. Thank you so much for the shout out (my laptop is now back HOME!!) and thanks so much for joining the hop. You're always the first to post on the various hops, and so cheerful and supportive when you visit everyone. You're awesome!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteLexa, you are too nice!! Thank you. I know, I read later where you got the laptop back! Ha!
DeleteSouth Carolina;s beaches sound enticing. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNC and SC beaches are quite lovely. You are welcome, (smile)
DeleteHaven't been to SC beaches, but some day. It's always someday isn't it, but we are only four hours from Ocean City, Maryland. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYolanda, I haven't been to Ocean City. I'll look that up.
DeleteI want to go to this beach! It is on my to do list with my family in the next couple of years. We should do a blog hop meet up!
ReplyDeleteColleen - a blog hop meet up sounds great!
DeleteI have never been to South Carolina, but your photos make me want to visit some day. That roller coaster would be a huge hit with my teens.
ReplyDeleteRhonda, if you ride and take your camera, strap it on tight.
DeleteLooks like a gorgeous place. I love beaches with roller coasters on them, even though I'm the only person in my family brave enough to ride them….
ReplyDeleteKate - I love roller coasters!
DeleteI've not been to Myrtle Beach yet, though I'd like to someday. My favourite vacation spot is Newfoundland. I spent many summers there growing up, since my grandfather was born there and loved going back. It's very beautiful, rugged, and peaceful. I haven't been there as much since I got married - two or three times in twenty years - but I'm hoping to go again next summer.
ReplyDeleteSusan, I hope you get back to Newfoundland soon. Sounds wonderful and lots of good memories.
DeleteLooks beautiful! I'm not a summer or heat person, so my favorite spot is Disney...in November :) It only gets as hot as 80-85...which is still too hot for me, but that's only during the hottest time of day. Love Disney! You just can't beat the customer service.
ReplyDeleteKatie - I love deep sea fishing in the fall of the year!
DeleteMy daughter visiting there. I'd like to go someday!
