  1. Oh aint that cute:-) Makes me want to get on my costume and go 'trick or treatin'. Mind you, I might get some strange looks from folks over here in England. Nothing new, there then.
    Happy Halloween:-)

Deffinately a case of 2 nations divided by a common language! But the costume looks tasty

  4. Smallandsnappy/Philip,
'Pee wees' are my favorite; they're not in school yet. In my community's smalll parade, they have a tendancy to stand still, smile, and look around at people. You have to 'prompt' them to keep moving along! lol. Then quite suddenly they bolt away from you and you run like heck to catch 'em before they get too far! lol.
    Thanks,
    Dixie

  7. This little one is certainly a 'winner'! What a delightful picture, Dixie. Makes me remember when my children were small. What great memories I have of them dressed up for Halloween. I don't know who had more fun...the kids or me.(smile) Great post!

    Blessings always,
    Mattie

  8. Hi Dixie,

Was looking forward to reading "The Big Halloween on Saturday" post, but it seems not to have arrived, Spooky?

Hope we do get to see it soon

  9. Dear Dixie,
    Certainly a cute photo, dc.
Unfortunately, I never went trick or treating, as the phenomenon hadn't arrived in good old England when I was small. This photo makes me feel like I missed out. All say Ah!
    Yours with Very Best Wishes,
    David.

  10. Hazelmarie Elliott (Mattie),

My Mom always made candied apples and caramel popcorn. We ate as much as we gave out. Of course she always protected us from the dreaded chocolates: Mars, Hershey, Snickers, and so forth!

    Love to you,
    Dixie

  12. Day in the Life/ David,

I have mixed feelings about the Halloweens of today. I don't know if neighborhoods were actually safer back in my day (a hundred years or so now). Today the public relies on more parties or group type events for children to gather.

I wish you could have seen me the year I wore my older brother's junior high football uniform! I kept wondering how people guessed who I was? Then my friend told me to take off my glasses. The first house we went to, after that, was great until I stepped off the porch and almost broke my leg. I couldn't see. LOL

~And you think you might have enjoyed this?

  13. I too have mixed feelings, sorry but this seems to be another OTT import to the UK from over the pond. No disrespect but those supermarkets just look at Halloween as just another marketing exercise to extract more money from already stretched parents. The good thing is that we now have pumpkins for sale, very few are ever eaten, just carved! However their fate is somewhat more carnal round at our house.

(we eat them, yum yum yum)

  14. Smallandsnappy/Philip,

Halloween originated in Europe, was transported to the 'new world' (?) Since that time the commercialisation has become obnoxious. The proliferation of harm to children has reduced it's affects on celebrating in the 'door to door' manner of yesterday. Mixed feelings indeed!

I love 'pumpkin roll'. Google that for a nice treat from pumpkin meat!! Really yum! :)

  16. Hi Dixie, I have googled "Pumpkin Roll" and it looks really good. The recipes seem to need canned pumpkin, which we don't have over here, could I cook my own and mash it, what would be best, steam it or bake in the oven?
I will try it soon, while the pumpkins are good and fresh

    Thanks

    Philip

Philip good question. I don't know if it needs to be precooked? I too use the canned version. My best guess would be to steam it, then mash up, to add to the remainder of ingredients. Just watch the dryness. Pumpkin can be very drying...loss of moisture.. makes for less than yummy roll. You'll know once your batter or mixer is ready for pouring into a pan. If you've ever baked a cake, then you'll know what I'm talking about. A few drops of milk or water could go a long way.

Can't wait to see your blog on this! Best of luck:)
