J is for Jacks
An old time jack Takes me back... Today we have portals For fighting immortals!
This clever ditty about portals and immortals, filled me with gleeful chortles.
Sorry, it's almost 3 a.m. here, and I couldn't think of anything else that rhymed with immortals. Where is Pat Hatt when you need him? This was fun, Dixie!
A jack is a portal/ connection between a telephone, and the wall where the telephone service enters the house. Now we have lots of jacks/connections for computers, printers, scanners, that feed the power into the device being used.
Hi, Dixie....we have an old intercom system in our house that has an 8-track tape deck in it! Not sure where one would find a tape like that now. And we have telephone jacks even one in a bathroom, but no house phone.
No longer is the day for a phone jack in our house. We switched to VOiP about 10 years ago. One day our grandkids or great-grandkids are going to ask us what a "jack" is. lol
Great words Dixie.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week-end.
Yvonne.
Thank you, Yvonne, you too dear!!

Julie
Chortles is fine.
DeleteWorked for my mind.
What is Pat?
Feeding the cat?

ReplyDeleteSome flea markets might have tapes, but how do you if it works?
DeleteI've got jacks everywhere. Thank goodness they're next to the floor.
The jack got jacked
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth!!??
DeleteJust loved this, very clever, introduction for another book I think.
ReplyDeletePut me on the list to read it, when you're done!!!
DeleteHow clever! I like how you ended that. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrys. It really does seem that way. No wall power - the characters get lost, forgotten, or.... shudder, shudder, killed!
DeleteOr have they been transported to another.....???
So much has challenged technology wise over the years, hasn't it?
ReplyDeletebetty
Yes it indeed and I'm the most behind it seems (smile).
DeleteThanks, Mike. I've been enjoying your A-Z all week!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I had a flashback, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan. I'm enjoying reading both of your blogs!
DeleteThank you.
Did you know chortles was a word invented by Lewis Carroll? It first appears in the Jabberwocky. "He chortled in his joy".
ReplyDeleteNever seen Jacks like those.
Jo, I did not know Lewis Carroll invented the word, or that it had been around this long. Thank you.
DeleteThese jacks furnish many pieces of equipment with power from a single source.
Hit the road jack and dontcha come back no more no more no more.
ReplyDeleteThrough the right portal I've no doubt that could happen. Ha!
DeleteTechnology and Avengers in one poem. Yeah, all the jacks in my house are just taking up wall space.
ReplyDeleteThat's like the way I see 'AI'... avenging technology!
DeleteHahaaaa....good one!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cathrina.
DeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Courtney!
DeleteLoved the last line... so appropriate:)
ReplyDeleteReading your blurbs has the same affect on me, Tania!
DeleteIs this in an apartment block? That's the only reason I can think of for needing 26 phone lines :P
ReplyDeleteBusiness office, Michael. Loving your A-Z theme.

ReplyDeleteMy service doesn't need jacks either.
