E is for Entrance

An entrance of pride
In the front, or on the side?
Turn the lock with your key,
Now at home, are you free?

  1. That's a very nice entry; I like all the flowers and plants :) I always enjoy getting home, you know the saying "there's no place but home"

    1. Aw, Betty, you are so right. I enjoy being home. I spent this weekend working on my favorite 'entrance,' the side patio. When it's done, if ever, I'll post a photo. Maybe it'll be as pretty as that one above.

Side note: I loved your a-z post today, and the recipe is great!!

  2. Returning home is usually a downer for me. I much rather being out and accomplishing things.

    1. Michael, I don'y know anything about your situation, but I can offer that, it doesn't have to be that way forever.

I think I had to define, for myself, what I wanted 'home' to be. I started out simply defining one room I really felt comfy in - my studio, or maybe it was the kitchen - where I painted a three foot mural of the ocean and three sailing ships!

Then again - some people never really 'need' a home - "home is where the heart is..." find that Michael, and be happy!!! (smile)

    1. I wonder, Yvonne, how many people really want a welcomed sight when they arrive home? Does it dispel the day's 'boo-boos'?

Thank you - will see you soon (smile).

  4. Nothing like the feeling of getting home after a hard day. Though I work at home, so it doesn't apply too much to me!

    1. I do too, but I want an outside that lets me get away, if only momentarily, to a different mood. I like taking my small tape recorder and speaking freely while looking at a freshness that has no roof or walls. Just me, ha!

    1. No - the camera is broken, and the God-daughter's camera needs recharging. But I would love to have some of those plants.

  7. An entrance a welcome treat
    for the folks you meet
    a place of sweet retreat
to kick your shoes off your feet
    breathing a sigh of relief
    Home Sweet Home repeats

Okay, I'm not a poetic, as you know, but I just couldn't resist. This fell off my lips. lol

    1. I think that's wonderful news. I hope you like colors. Some choose a variety and others go monochromatic.

    1. Me too Sharon! My picnic table is the easy go to, just a few feet from the door, but breakfast in the Gazebo is a lot of fun. Crazy squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits out in the early morning.

  16. Hi Dixie. It often occurs to me that the way a person presents the entrance to their home is a kind of statement that they make to the world about how they see themselves or wish to be seen. There's nothing wrong with that of course but its interesting....

    1. Oh, Bazza, I'm think I'm too selfish to care what some may think. I want to pull the driveway and see my hard work, smiling back at me. I want to small animals scurrying around the block walls I've laid. I want to sees and butterflies flitting from one plant to another. I want to be in life.

Not sure why, but in this song of Kevin's, I hear Rod Stewart. Thank you for the music link (smile).

    1. Mine either yet, but I'm making headway. I just wondered what people like. My home is a beach theme inside and out. I have seashells, driftwood, and have a couple of flower selections to blend in.

  20. We actually have a plan to work on the entrance to our house this summer. We live in LA where the water shortage will start to cut down on lawn watering. We're looking at turf, drip irrigation and drought tolerant plants. Coming home is such an important part of my day, I don't want dirt and dead bushes leading me to the front door :)
