You know - I'm all about that baste, 'bout that baste - no stuffing

I simply could not help myself. I heard this song and thought, "My stars, it's all about the baste." Being a bit older than the young woman singing her song, I have no idea what she's talking about... "I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass - no treble?" For me it morphed into a cooking method for the coveted turkey. You know the ones who get slammed, crammed, and jammed every November?  Not for me! I am all about that baste, 'bout that baste - no stuffing!

Why? (I know you're sitting there wondering why, aren't you?) Every year for the last twenty years I have attended family Thanksgivings away from my home. They patronize me with just enough leftovers for 24 hours. It's a crime. Not only that but they all stuff the bird. If you're going to make a deposit please allow it to be accepted before you post against it!

It's been a hard lesson to NOT eat the stuffing no matter how yummy it smells. I simply beg off with some excuse about caloric counts. (You smile? Ha, but if you saw those twenty something birds you'd be  in agreement with me. "Sorry, sorry, I know I only weight 140 lbs. but my goal is 120. Yes it's a lie. So is the 140, but let's continue.)

Wonderful juices begin from the depths of my roasting turkey; I baste him until he screams! We spend hours together frolicking in the kitchen, sharing dreams of casseroles yet to be concocted. And the hot bread with creamy butter takes me to heights I only climb this time of year. Do "they" know I cook for a late day Thanksgiving? Shh - please - they will never know. It's all I can do to contain my excitement knowing the German chocolate cake is waiting. (Let them eat cake - their own cake!)

Just for giggles... here's Meghan Trainor singing her version. Mine will be out on Thanksgiving Day!!
You go girl!

  1. Gosh, Dixie!

Yep, she sings, "it's all about the bass as in kiss my bass, or something like that.

You certainly stuffed a lot into one juicy article? Didn't you, y'all? Your posts are always in good baste, methinks.

You should of got your version out on Thanksgiving Day back in October. Canada needs to hear you sing, eh.

Goodnight from England. Jolly good show....

    1. Gary - good to know you're still among us! I thought surely she meant, all about the base - with an 'e' on the end... but no. Hey you, write something - the masses are waiting.
Goodnight from across the pond. Thanks for visiting. :)

  2. Yes, I've often heard of shenanigans involving turkey basters but never involving actually cooking a turkey. Thanks for broadening my horizons!

    1. You'll need to see "An Artful Blogger" - my alternative site. In a few days I promise to show real basting potential!

  4. I can't help but be reminded of my gay cousin. She and her partner were both pregnant at the same time. I think turkey basters were involved.....

    1. Lucky you. I recently saw tofu made in the shape of a turkey. Have you ever done that? Shaped your meat out of tofu? (Am I spelling tofu right??)

    2. No way! I don't understand why manufacturers would want to make vegetarian food meat or turkey shaped. And I don't understand why any vegetarians would want to eat it. It seems to go completely against the whole idea of not eating meat/animals. But each to their own, my wife eats meat.

    3. Oh good Mike. It seemed a bit strange to me. Tell your wife she's invited to Thanksgiving! We can fix you a wonderful salad.

  7. Can't stand that bass wench! But then again I can't stand half of today's pop tarts....
I was once under 120 pounds, some 7 or 8 years ago, I still can't believe it when I take out my pants and jeans from that period... my leg barely can go through their waist now :(

    1. The song is great for exercising. You might prefer the Coldplay song I posted on my last post(sigh). Ah, Dezzy - I was under 120 pounds at birth... and for many years after that! Sorry about your pants.

  8. I don't cook a whole turkey any more just a whole breast. There are only two of us. I was never very keen on stuffing except for chestnut stuffing which we always used in the neck cavity.

    1. I've never tried any stuffing but chestnut sounds nice. You have such great recipes.
