Speak

Fair one, your tears are all bottled and saved ~
the highest in heaven has opened your grave.
You shine as the brightness of daytime full sun ~
but tarry no longer, the leaving's begun.

Small butterfly so sweet and so blue ~
just one more chance to take in the view.
A look all around at the place where I leave
my tears are all bottled and no more to grieve.

Fair one, the stairway is closing so fast ~
too much time talking about this world's past.
We must make the light and climb to the top ~
then lightly touch down where earth is no thought.

Small butterfly so sweet and so blue ~
I hear what you're saying but can this be true?
That light from the top is actually a flame ~
and here, on this list, I don't see MY name.

Oops, I forgot to mention the 'speak' ~
how those would inherit the earth if they're meek.
The tares would be gathered and thrown in the fire ~
good thing we stopped and made it no higher.

Small butterfly so sweet and so blue ~
will this 'speak' to me as it speaks to you?
Alas I am feeling drawn to know more ~
and see that the 'speak' has opened a door.

Fair one, mistakes are easily wrought  ~
I almost condemned us to life without thought.
Small butterfly the 'speak' gave us grace ~
and now we will dwell with 'speak' in this place.

  1. Hi Dixie. This seems to be really personal and about something the casual reader (me) is not sure of.
Of course, the mantra for a poet must be 'never explain'!

  2. It would be nice to think that the meek will inherit the earth, but I don't feel it's quite that simple. I'd be happy to be proved wrong though.

  3. What I say
    May well not be true
    But I'm thinking
    Just maybe
    That butterfly blue
    Might well be you

  4. Oh bother, Bazza! (Pooh Bear is smiling) Simply a conversation between a fairy and a butterfly; how complicated is that?

I'm merely loosening you up for the greater stories your grandchildren will share. (Hopefully not, but it makes me feel sane) Other than this, there is no explanation. Thanks.

  5. Quite agree, Mike, and answers will take more research than what I've done. Looking at the definition of 'meek' has me wondering where we could find people like that? Of course listening to the fairy and butterfly only added to my confusion.

I'll have to get back to you :)

  6. Gary:
    That's quite a guess
    but it's not true.
    You did your best
    but I'm not blue.

    I'm in the tree
    recording sounds
    of all that's free
    and moves around.
