Leaning

Like a football cheer from childhood: “lean left, lean right, stand up sit down, fight, fight, fight.” Just like the house in the photo: no matter where I stood to take the photo, it was always leaning; although the house was perfectly level. I fought, fought, fought to find a level area to take the shot, but no such luck. Once I got home I decided that I kind of liked the looks of the house leaning; so maybe my own leanings on the struggles I deal with are an illusion. Maybe they’re not crooked or leaning. Maybe they’re normal for what I go through. Maybe I have trained my perspective to see them as imperfect, or as less than perfect. Maybe I just haven’t found the level ground that says, “It’s okay to lean.” Does anyone understand what I’ve written? If so would you explain it to me?

  1. Dear dcrelief,
I think that what you are trying to say is that really there is no such thing as "normal". Your "leanings" are what make you you, as an individual. Which is quite, excuse the word, "normal".
I wrote a blog recently on psychiatry and how it has a very narrow view of what is "normal" and what is not, and so perhaps it is that we have so many people telling us what is right and wrong that we judge ourselves too harshly, when all we have to really do is accept our "leanings" and be orselves.
At least I think that's what you were trying to say. Hope this helps, but personally I think you put it more eloquently and poetically yourself.

    With Warmest Wishes,
    David.

  3. Hi dcrelief,
I remember some football cheers myself, not ones that I could possibly mention here:-)
Even though the house was level, I think the photograph making it appear to lean, makes it more interesting. This 'crooked' illusion gives your picture its own unique quality.
We all have our own unique qualities. What we perceive as 'leaning' another may perceive as 'level'. I guess it is all about our perception of life and the environment we live in. Dcrelief, I have no idea what I just wrote. Kind regards klahanie.

  5. Dear Klahanie,
I really liked what you shared. Thank you for trying to level with me, without attempting to put the house level. Maybe I'm 'off' but on a level that you or others can understand.
    In peace, dcrelief
