Winter's Last Cone

Oh single cone how long will you stay,
Through Winter's night and cold sunny day?
The last cone I spy, as you hang alone,
And wait for the time when you will de-throne.

There on the ground a place among others.
Is mother, father, sisters and brothers.
Their death will now feed the coming green fern,
For Spring's happy season before your return.

This is the last day to vote for the song you like the best... on my "Battle of The Bands" blog. You do not have to join this blog hop to vote or leave a comment. Thank you.

    1. I like it because it just barely gets started and it's over. Half brain, I suppose.
      Thanks, Robyn.

    1. Billy - seems we're having one of our dry winters this year - cones go fast. But it'll snow and little green shoots of stuff will come up, and might even survive.

  6. You make me wish I still wrote poetry as I did many years ago. No longer seem to feel the urge sadly.

  7. It's like the counterpart to the last leaf of Autumn. Let's take it as a sign that, eventually, Spring will get here!

    1. Hi Carole Anne. It seems silly but I've been waiting to collect the cones at the bottom of this one tree I have. This last one is hanging on. I figure about the time I take the others home... this one will drop! (smile)
