Update and Vacation for July

My last post stated I would be seeing a neurologist on June 24th. Well, that happened, and there's bad news and good news.

Here's the bad news. The stroke I mentioned during a previous post actually happened last fall - some eight months ago now. My regular MD thought all of my issues were caused by a vitamin D deficiency. However, once my D level returned to normal, the issues had still not completely cleared. I went for an MRI, which showed evidence of a stroke.

The neurologist questioned why it took so long for me to have an appointment with him - eight months! I didn't have an answer; I think he might want to contact my regular MD, and I told him that. At this point in time the only thing to do, regarding this event, is to go for physical evaluation and therapy. I hoping to regain strength and usage of my left hand, arm, and more stability in walking. So July will be filled with lots of appointments for therapy.

Meanwhile, as a preventive measure, I have to have other tests, as ordered by the neurologist. An echo cardiogram, and CT scan are scheduled this month as well.
This may sound crazy, but I was so relieved to hear this news. It could have been so much worse. Thoughts of other illnesses or situations were stressful, even though I tried to remain calm and positive. I'm sure you understand. To me this is good news.

I've been absent from this blog so much but I've tried to keep up with my joke blog and my Battle of the Bands blog. I'm taking a vacation from all three blogs for the month of July. My health is the focus. Thank you for your patience, kind words, and positive thoughts. I will try to visit everyone even though I won't post this month.

Thank you!

Dixie

    1. Thank you, Alex. My neurologist was pretty upset too. Now it's a wait and see game.

  3. Stay strong, Dixie. I've learnt many times in my life, maybe even too many, that doctors can't really be trusted fully. Try to explore your problem as much as possible once you know everything and study it yourself, not to rely only on them :(

  4. How awful that it took so long to get the right diagnoses! I'm sorry you're going through this and wish you well. Have a wonderful vacation and take good care of yourself.

    1. Thanks, Debbie. Once I decided to stop wasting energy on being mad or upset, I moved a bit closer to a comfort zone.

Awareness is always a good key to have. Now I know, so I can flow with the coming processes!

  5. Dixie, I am sorry about your experience but as you, am thankful it could have been worse.
I turned up my my hospital to see a neurologist on the 21st June about my epilepsy to be told the clinic had been cancelled and was supposed to have been notified about going on the 8th June. Yesterday I was told that there is now a long wait.
I sincerely hope your future tests go well and do have a good a July as you possibly can.
Take care, I will be thinking of you.
    Yvonne.

  7. At least you found a neurologist that will push the issue and help, that is grand, even if your MD is rather umm slow. Good to know too. Health has to come first.

    1. Pat, you're so right. My former MD retired after 28 years. The new MD just doesn't know me. It's been tough trying to figure out what's going on. I am somewhat relieved now.

Thank you. I'll stop in to see you as much as possible!

  8. Hi Dixie,
I haven't commented in a while, and hearing of your problems with your health, felt extremely guilty for not doing so. Perhaps one tends to get preoccupied with one's own issues. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear that you've been having such a tough time, but think that your ability to have a positive attitude despite it all is both brave and inspiring. I sincerely hope that the care you get from the doctors improves, and you can hope for a happy and healthy future. You're a brave lady, Dixie!
Wishing you all the best in the coming months.
    Very Best Regards,
    David.

    1. Hi David!!
I missed commenting on your last post. Even though most of my issues appear to be of a physical nature, there have been days when I simply can't focus. That has improved.

I'm doing my best to stay in the hope zone. Thank you, and it's great hearing from you.

      Smiles,
      Dixie

  15. I am so sorry you've been going through this, Dixie. On the other hand, I'm relieved for you too. I know how uplifting it is to learn of a diagnosis, or that - for example - the big C isn't what's going on. I believe and hope you've been through the worst of it and are on a healing path towards full recovery. Only good thoughts to you.
