Only the shadow knows

Welcome to another "Groundhog's Day"... you know the day when the groundhog comes out from his burrow, and attempts to predict when Spring will arrive. A feat most meteorologists cannot accomplish, right?

Oh well, the day is still celebrated, in some parts of the world more than others. Wait! Do all countries have groundhogs? Hm, if you don't have one, don't worry... we'll let you know what happens here.

Some people really worry about this. Here's a song for them.

  1. I love it, rodents predicting the weather!

  2. They have just as good a chance as being right as any weatherman.
And is it seeing his shadow means more winter? I can never remember...

    1. That's right, Alex. If he sees his shadow, more winter is expected.

  4. We have a few groundhog prognosticators in Canada but apart from the US and Canada, I don't think anyone else in the world celebrates Groundhog Day?

    1. They're probably better off, or maybe they have a more reliable animal. Ha!

  6. Never heard of any other countries relying on animals (other than human animals) to predict the weather and the groundhog is just as likely to be right as anyone/thing else.

I'm still fighting dizziness, and the vitamin D issue. Otherwise I'm okay. I've been loving your posts - great photos!

  9. They use hedgehogs in Europe. More people would believe a rodent than thousands of scientists anyway.I wonder if a groundhog can predict who will win at Hialeah in the fourth race tomorrow?

    1. Aw Jono - predict the race? You'll have to find a hedgehog and ask. Funny comment!

  10. I came looking for your entry in the Valentine's bloghop, but I couldn't find it. Not too surprising... I could get lost with a GPS, a map, and a compass. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I do appreciate it.

Anyhow, here in GA, our groundhog General Lee, who happens to have his own mini-mansion, for crying out loud, couldn't see his shadow. Too much fog. With all the rain we've been getting, he should maybe get his minions to start building an ark.
