Finale ~ Bird Plaque

What a sad moment... seeing my painted bird plaque on the concrete patio in a thousand pieces. I sat down at the picnic table, feeling a little choked up, while trying to maintain my composure. After all, the child didn't mean to break it.

I put the second clear coat on the bird plaque this morning. There was such a nice breeze outside. I left it to dry. Stepping into the house for a glass of juice only took a few seconds. At my door I was greeted by an neighbor, saying hello. Her grandson was in her yard a few feet away, but he stepped onto my large block wall, picking up the painted bird plaque.

I think what came out of my mouth was, "Uh - wet paint, honey."

The neighbor, Grandmother began to yell, "Put that down now!" And he did.

I suspect it was still so wet, it slipped then flipped, out of his hands. It landed four feet down onto the ground - the concrete patio.

Now to handle the aftermath. I know from prior research that the plaque is between 20-30 years old. I haven't found anything comparable to it. My client doesn't seem to be upset. She thinks she may have something else she'd rather have done - like a painting on canvas.

Life goes on... and the birds are finally free to fly away.

    1. It surprised me that she wasn't upset. She has in mind a 4'x 6' painting. Can you imagine?

  2. Oh I am sorry to hear that!! Your client had a good attitude about it though. Too bad the grandmother wasn't keeping a better eye on the little one though.

    1. Me too. If only I had photographed it, but that might have meant the camera would have been sitting on the wall too, (probably). Wow, didn't think of that.

    1. She has a photo of a blossoming tree that is canvas 6' long x 4' high... she thinks she wants that instead. I wish you'd let me do a triptych. That would really nice and more modern looking.

    1. I just saw an article at Daily Mail about some USA professor who took of his leather belt and started whipping some ill-behaving brat in the classroom and his friends are stampeding out of the classroom :) I swear there were about 1.000 likes for the comment which said BRAVO FOR THE TEACHER. But, seriously, today's kids, especially the USA ones, really need some whipping and spanking. 'tis the only thing that can cure lil' criminals and brats.

    2. Dezz, I see your point. In the case at my home, this little guy was standing four feet off the ground on top of my block wall. He could have gotten hurt. He needed supervision, and would never have been on the wall to begin with. I'm glad the child didn't slip and fall. That's why I got mad at his Grandmother. He could have been hurt.

Over here, a lot of people are against spanking and in the long run, we have more and more children undisciplined. But I don't see that as the only reason or the main reason. Some adults have no interest in their children. Let the internet and television control them. It's sad.

  9. Dixie, that is terrible. You're doing so much better with this than I would be in your place. Thank goodness your client is being good about the whole thing, too. I know accidents happen...

Sending you a big hug long distance.

    1. Oh Robin, no. I came inside, and boo-hooed my little heart out. Painting three dimensional birds means having sample photos (from the internet) from all angles. It's not like I know what the inside of a cardinals tail looks like.

Thank you for the hug (( smile))

    1. Aw, Linda, seeing that child and knowing he felt so terrible... I couldn't fuss. I did get a bit peeved with Grandma...but got over that today. It just happened so fast. A million times I wished I'd put in on the sun porch to dry, but I didn't want the room to smell like polyurethane.

      Live and learn!

  13. Fussing can't undo what's been done, especially when it's not your child(or grandchild). It's hard to let go of material things that you love, especially those hard to find, irreplaceable objects. The difficulty of the loss is painful. Oh well...all you can do is move forward with your new project. Your client is a real good sport. I'm so glad for you!
