Winter beauty - the Magnolia Leaf

There's a pale blue sky. A bright morning sun is partially hidden by a curtain panel.

At the edge of my yard tall grasses have finally met Winter. They stand tall and dried in the glow.

The forest beyond, has leaf-less trees silhouetted in black. Only a few magnolias with dark green leaves reflect the sunlight in tiny sparkles of light.

It looks like Winter when life slows down, and appears dead. It is cold, and yet it is beauty.

  1. I was given a magnolia for my birthday some time back, when I lived in NC. I was so very sorry to have to leave it behind. There is lots of beauty in winter.

    1. Jo, wish I could sen you one. They're growing wild in my back yard, and in the small forest I own. (Where I refuse to mow and tame the land.)

      Winter is something else(smile).

  6. Beautifully written! I'm wondering if we won't have an early spring this year. I know I'm in the south where it's always a bit warmer even when it's winter. But I have daffodils pushing up, and I've seen insects that are normally warmer weather insects, and I wonder if that isn't Mother Nature hinting at warmer days to come. Or maybe it's totally normal for this time of year and I just haven't noticed before.

    1. Thank you, Kim! You might be entering early spring sure enough. Last year we had a frost that took out half my spring blossoms. That and a late snow. I hope that won't happen this year. I did plant a new kind of flower, hoping the lateness survives these things.

See you on the 1st, if not before then!(smile)
